  Risk Management

Recently named Asia Risk magazine's Interest Rate Derivatives House of the Year, Standard Chartered is well-positioned to meet the needs of customers for risk management solutions in the global financial markets. We offer a wide range of financial hedging tools: currency options and interest rate derivatives to manage foreign exchange and interest rate exposures; non-deliverable forwards to manage exchange rate exposures of offshore customers; as well as credit derivatives and other synthetic credit products to provide customised investment products and structured financing solutions.

Interest Rate Risk

Standard Chartered offers a full range of interest rate derivatives products to meet your specific risk management needs, ranging from plain vanilla to exotic. Applications include solutions for interest rate and currency hedging and risk management, as well as strategies for yield enhancement. Product coverage extends to both G3 and emerging markets, with trading in more than 30 currencies in 12 countries worldwide.

For more information and advice on how to better manage your interest rate risk, please contact your local Standard Chartered Relationship Manager.

Currency Risk

Standard Chartered offers a full suite of options products, from the plain vanilla to the exotic, for diverse risk management needs. Structured option strategies are also available for specific hedging and trading purposes. In addition to a strong presence in all the major financial markets, our niche is in the emerging market currencies where an extensive international network and in-depth local knowledge provide unique insights. We have a team of dedicated traders, structurers and analysts working across all timezones to provide you with customised solutions to manage your risk wherever you are in the world.

The growth of structured products has seen increasing use of FX options embedded into other structures, providing investors with enhanced yields, or borrowers with cheaper funding. FX options can be combined with all sorts of financial transactions to enhance their appeal or efficiency, so whether it be a straightforward trade-related hedge or a complex cross-product derivative exposure, we have the capabilities to help you get the best out of the markets.

For innovative and customised currency risk management solutions, please contact your local Standard Chartered Relationship Manager.

Exchange Rate

The Non-Deliverable Forwards market allows offshore parties to hedge exchange rate exposures on many Asian, African and Latin American currencies, without any physical transfer of these currencies and without having to deal in the local market, thereby eliminating local counterparty risk and the cost of holding accounts in local currencies. Investors are able to gain access and exposure to higher yielding markets.

Leveraging on an onshore international presence and 150 years of experience in the emerging markets, Standard Chartered is a leading player in the global NDF market. We offer NDF hedging solutions such as cash settled currency options in NDF currencies for maturities up to one year, as well as non-deliverable cross currency swaps with maturities of up to five years.

For better exchange rate risk management solutions, please contact your local Standard Chartered Relationship Manager.
